The very first material of this mystical and majestic dungeon synth colossus. First found on a split with Mightiest, one would be a proper jester to overlook these invocations. Medieval Demons already is a masterwork in terms of grim and forlorn arcana. Archaic and exalted melodies alternate with dense and foreboding soundscapes. Dark Side and Düsterwald have a very charming and unconventional approach to the darker arts as well and complete this record to form an impressive prelude.

As with the first re-release, the remaster of this material sounds excellent. The Darkened Empires is an esoteric journey into medieval realms. At certain points dreamlike, at others almost nightmarish, the atmospheres created on this album are diverse and manifold. The occasional spoken word sequences reinforce the mysterious and cryptic aspects even further.
